Workplace Diversity

Unique voices and unique points of view.

At UnitedHealth Group, our success is the direct result of the tireless dedication of more than 60,000 employees in 33 countries worldwide. Every one of our employees brings a unique set of talents to the workplace and each shares a commitment to improving the health care system. Creating an inclusive workplace environment in which all employees have opportunities to achieve their personal goals and realize their potential remains one of our guiding principles.

Diversity & Inclusion Council Diversity & Inclusion Council
Comprised of senior leaders with cross-business representation, the council is charged with imbedding diversity and inclusion more deeply into our workforce and the customers and communities we serve. This group sets the strategic direction and goals for the enterprise. They also work with business and functional teams to further integrate diversity and inclusion into the culture and business fabric of the company.

Diversity in Recruitment
We put a high priority on seeking out the best talent from a diverse pool of candidates to build the best team. We host flagship events at conferences and career fairs, such as:

The National Black MBA Association, National Society of Hispanic MBAs, Asian MBA Conference and Career Expo, National Association of Black Accountants, Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting, The National Association of Health Services Executives Conference and The Multicultural Forum.

Our College Recruitment Program focuses on the newest generation of our workforce. In this program, recent college graduates are provided a foundation to help them develop into successful leaders within our organization.

We also actively recruit employees 50 years and older. Their knowledge and life experiences add to the mosaic of diverse viewpoints throughout our company and the communities we serve. We also ensure workplace policies and programs are in place and aligned to support recruitment and retention efforts and are working with AARP to advance the value proposition for mature workers.

Education & Training Education & Training
UnitedHealth Group supports its employees in their work by providing access to a full range of health and well-being tools, a robust learning management system and the regular opportunity to provide feedback to the management team. To increase overall knowledge and to build a foundation to impact behaviors on a daily basis, two new online courses were created and launched enterprise-wide in 2008: "Valuing Diversity and Inclusion" and "Cross-Generational Workers in the 21st Century." In addition, recruiters company-wide participate in diversity training, "Leveraging Diversity and Inclusion"  and employees access GlobeSmart, a web-based learning tool and online encyclopedia of global business knowledge that increases the awareness ofemployees regarding the assumptions, expectations and behaviors of their colleagues worldwide.
Reaching Out to Others Reaching Out to Others
Meeting the needs of our diverse stakeholders, from individuals and health care providers to business and advocacy partners, requires an equally diverse workforce. Throughout our history, we’ve held strongly to the importance of not only having a diverse workforce, but also fostering an environment of mutual respect that actively embraces the unique backgrounds, experiences and skills of all our employees.
Supporting Diversity Supporting Diversity
UnitedHealth Group Management holds memberships to diverse organizations and attends forums and conferences which focus on workplace diversity, recruitment and retention. This inclusiveness is paramount to building successful relationships and meeting the needs of our business and customers and helps to foster an environment of opportunity for professional and personal growth, fulfillment and recognition.
Diversity & Future Leaders Diversity & Future Leaders
UnitedHealth Group's future success is dependent on our ability to develop future leaders. Recently we launched United Manager Program. This program supports the development needs of new managers, equipping them with the insights, information and skills they need to lead their teams, accomplish their goals, and support our organization's mission.
