UnitedHealth Group is committed to our diverse communities. Every day, we are engaged with communities, individuals, families and employers to promote healthy living, prevent disease and improve the quality and effectiveness of care.

500,000 Wishes
This encourages effective advance health care planning for ethnic minority populations through culturally appropriate decision-making tools and a comprehensive distribution approach that includes community and cultural organizations, as well as legal and medical professionals.
African American Academic Initiative
We work collaboratively with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU), to simplify the health care experience for the consumer and to promote safe and effective evidence-based medicine.
Carbon Monoxide Screenings
As part of our Asian Initiatives Program, a mobile van provided free carbon monoxide screenings in various New York City and New Jersey neighborhoods.
The Children's Health Fund Children's Health Fund
The United Health Foundation actively supports the Children's Health Fund (CHF) New York Program, which includes the South Bronx Health Center for Children and Families, the New York Children’s Health Project and the new Health Center for Children and Youth in Central Harlem.
Chronic Diseases Internationally
In 2007, our Ovations business unit announced an international partnership to raise awareness of the epidemic of chronic disease. We help build the infrastructure for sharing the knowledge and skills necessary to prevent, manage and treat chronic illnesses in developed and developing countries.
Disabled Americans
UnitedHealth Group takes action to employ and advance qualified individuals with disabilities, including disabled veterans, by establishing contacts with organizations for individuals with disabilities and providing them with information on our job opening.
Dollars for Doers
UnitedHealth Group expanded its commitment to supporting our employees’ service by launching our Dollars for Doers program, which rewards employees who share their time with the community.
Healthy Indiana Healthy Indiana
OptumHealth Financial Services and UnitedHealthcare helped design a program that was not only geared toward Indianans most in need, but also stressed the importance of preventive care. Under the plan, all preventive care is provided at no cost to participants.
Helping reduce health disparities
Targeted at closing the gaps in oral health among children, United Health Foundation awarded $300,000 to Howard University's dentistry school to create models of care and address the oral health of minority children.
Immunizations in New York
When we received word that New York City was struggling to provide life-saving flu immunizations to some of the city's most vulnerable citizens – those age 65 and over – AmeriChoice, Evercare, SecureHorizons and UnitedHealthcare rolled into action, supporting a wide-ranging flu immunization program.
INROADS INROADS Summer Internships
UnitedHealthcare Group sponsors summer internships through INROADS, a highly successful and nationally recognized internship program that places talented college students of color in internships with companies across the nation. Students gain valuable experience and skills that further prepare them for corporate and community leadership.
La Cooperativa de Campesinos La Cooperativa de Campesinos
Received over $440,000 to launch a pilot program to help migrant workers with resources and access to free or low-cost medical insurance.
Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation
In 2008 UnitedHealth Group helped to commemorate the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through a one million dollar donation to the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation. A Memorial to honor his national and international contributions will be built on the National Mall, situated adjacent to the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial and in a direct line between the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials in Washington D.C.
Minnesota Alliances
We recently announced a 10-year, $100-million initiative to support local communities in Minnesota. Through a series of alliances with community organizations, this initiative will advance health, education and social well-being across the state for many years to come.
Native American Health Initiatives
UnitedHealthcare has a dedicated team that understands the cultural differences that affect the health and well-being of American Indians. We are certified in Native American cultural competency and have a working relationship with Indian Health Services.
New York City's Chinatown
In the heart of New York City's Chinatown neighborhood, our outreach is bringing better health to the local community.
Partners in Care Foundation
Received a United Health Foundation grant to help improve access to and utilization of the end-of-life care.
Peace of Heart
A partnership between the United Health Foundation, the American Heart Association, the National Medical Association, the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, and the Association of Black Cardiologists is focused on combating heart disease. This initiative includes a multi-city effort staging high-visibility community events and media to increase awareness, and community-based health screenings.

UnitedHealth Group provides churches, community-based organizations and leaders affiliated with the Rainbow PUSH Coalition with access to health care tools and technology, educational materials, and clinical, disease management and care coordination expertise.
Shine Arizona Shine Arizona
A statewide grassroots program includes a network of local hospitals, physicians and health care professionals along with a variety of health, community, nonprofit and retail partners who seek to promote healthy living and preventive behaviors for all Arizonans – regardless of age, income, ethnicity or region.

UHCCF assists families who have gaps in their health benefit plan coverage by providing grants to defray the cost of those services that will significantly enhance the clinical condition or the quality of life of the child.
